Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy (HICAP) offers free local, individualized information and advocacy for Medicare beneficiaries and individuals becoming eligible within the next six months. Provides assistance to seniors or disabled persons with Medicare issues, including denials and appeals, supplemental insurance, and long term care insurance.

Volunteer HICAP Medicare counselors provide free, unbiased, and individualized counseling by appointment only.

    The Seniors First Information & Assistance program assists Placer County seniors (aged 60 and older) get the resources and assistance they need to remain healthy and independent.

    If you live outside of Placer County or do not meet their age criteria, they may be able to direct you to the agency or organization that can help you.

    Seniors First provides a free information and assistance hotline for Placer County seniors and their families. Information and Assistance Specialists are available to take your call, Mon– Fri from 8am- 4:30pm.

    Seniors First Resource Guide

    Seniors First also publishes a printed Placer County Resource Guide every two years. The guide includes listings for associations, businesses, nonprofits and government agencies that provide programs and services for local seniors and their families/caregivers.

    Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid health care program. This is a public health insurance program that pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited income and resources.

    Medicare Savings Plan (MSP) formerly called Medicare Premium Payment Program

    Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people 65 or older, and some younger people with disabilities. To apply for Medicare, you need to go through the federal government - you can apply online at Medicare.gov. If you have Medicare coverage, Medi-Cal may be able to pay your Medicare Part B premiums through a Medicare Savings Plan.     Medicare provides a health insurance plan for people who are 65 or older. People who are disabled or have permanent kidney failure may enroll at any age. Medicare has several parts: hospital insurance, medical insurance, and a prescription drug benefit. Hospital insurance, sometimes called Part A, covers inpatient hospital care and certain follow-up care. Medical insurance, sometimes called Part B, pays for physician services and some other services not covered by hospital insurance. Prescription drug benefit, Part D, is available as well.
