Offers health insurance to qualified individuals and families. There are many categories of Medi-Cal. A family's resources and/or income, depending on the category, determine eligibility.
County Medical Services Program (CMSP) provides coverage for adults not on SSI/SSP or Medi-Cal between the ages of 21 and 64. (For more information on CMSP see www.cmspcounties.org).
From the California Department of Health Care Services:
Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS. Medi-Cal is financed equally by the state and federal government. Medi-Cal phone support: 800-541-5555. The Telephone Service Center (TSC) is available 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays.
People who have straight Medi-Cal can call this number to get a list of providers in their area that take Medi-Cal. Once they have Anthem Blue Cross, California Health and Wellness, or other managed care, they will need to contact those companies directly for a list of providers.
This is one of many possible First 5 Nevada County Ready to Grow (R2G) program resources.
