To apply for Medicare, you need to go through the federal government - you can apply online at Medicare.gov. If you have Medicare coverage, Medi-Cal may be able to pay your Medicare Part B premiums through a Medicare Premium Payment Programs (MPPP). Nevada County Public Health Department can help you keep drugs out of reach of kids and protect our water supply by properly disposing of your prescription medications. In addition to permanent drop-off sites, there are periodic "Prescription Drug Take-Back Days," which are free events hosted by local law enforcement and the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) to give our community safe and convenient ways to drop off expired or unused prescription drugs. Take back days depend on funding being available.

Monkeypox is a rare disease that is caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus belongs to the Orthopoxvirus genus which includes the variola (smallpox) virus as well as the vaccinia virus, which is used in the smallpox vaccine. Monkeypox is of public health concern because the illness is similar to smallpox and can be spread from infected humans, animals, and materials contaminated with the virus. Monkeypox is less transmissible and usually less severe than smallpox.
