Youth Empowerment Support (YES!) is a program that supports youth and young adults through direct support, training, groups and leadership/system change opportunities.

YES! is a program of Whole Person Learning (WPL), a public agency that empowers youth and young adults to thrive in their communities by using a collaborative, individually tailored positive youth development approach.

You Have Rights Too! is a project of the YES Program and provides support for youth between the ages of 12 and 26. Youth Coordinators help to accomplish goals by providing information and referrals for resources, identifying support systems, empowerment, education and advocacy, placement options. Program is focused on filling in the gaps when youth or young adults cannot access other supports to meet their identified needs. Support is voluntary and is offered on an as needed basis.

Afterschool programs serving students from age 6 to 18, providing youth with a safe environment; adults who respect and listen to them; and interesting, constructive activities. Five core program areas are (1) Character and Leadership Development; (2) Education and Career Development; (3) Health and Life Skills; (4) The Arts; and (5) Sports, Fitness and Recreation providing youth with the tools and skills they need to become healthy adults, responsible citizens and effective leaders. The B&G Club has three afterschool sites during the school year. They offer homework help, tutoring, sports, recreation, career & leadership development, health & life skills, arts and crafts. They are located in Downtown Auburn, E.V. Cain Middle School, and the Rock Creek Elementary School. Membership at the Club costs $10.00 and program fees are $10.00 a month. Hours of operation are from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. five days a week. Their hours of operation are extended during the summer and school breaks.

Compassion Planet serves aged-out foster and at risk youth by addressing needs such as housing, life skills, coping skills, nutrition and employment through over 1,200 hours in our year-long intensive Mentor Program.

Trainees are employed by Compassion Planet at Deer Creek Farm and Compassion Thrift Store where a variety of skills training, work experience and an individualized growth plan for each trainee is developed and tracked. Social workers, trauma informed staff and trained volunteers work alongside our trainees in an occupational environment, which provides a controlled setting to discover how everyday life choices can impact future employment, goals and dreams. This hands-on approach gives Compassion Planet the opportunity to address whole-life principles such as finances, decision-making, health, hygiene, communication, nutrition, manners, healthy relationships, character, ethics, and leadership in addition to providing the needed coaching in career development.

This is a fun state licensed before and after school program for elementary school-aged children available at Alta Vista, Auburn Elementary, Bowman and Skyridge schools. Staff fulfill licensing requirements including: 18 years or older, CPR/First Aid certified and DOJ clearances. The program includes homework assistance, arts and crafts, nature study, sports, games, community service opportunities and time to play and relax with friends. Snacks are served daily. Bright Futures for Youth (BFFY) is a nonprofit created by the merger of The Friendship Club and NEO Youth Center. BFFY has been operating The Distance Learning Center and Youth Hub since October 26, 2020.

WHAT
The free Distance Learning Center and Youth Hub offers high-speed internet access – critical for online learning but difficult to get for many residents in rural areas – physically distanced workstations, and a safe and supervised study environment.
Students are required to bring their own or school-provided Chromebooks, laptops or tablets, and headphones.
The Distance Learning Center serves all school districts in Nevada County.
Grass Valley GVSD Child Nutrition Services provides free breakfasts and lunches to students.
The Distance Learning Center and Youth Hub follows COVID safety guidelines, including physical distancing and wearing masks. The area is cleaned and sanitized throughout the day.
