Assistance League Thrift Shop is managed and staffed completely by member volunteers and is stocked with gently-used clothing and merchandise. All funds raised at the Thrift Shop are returned to the local area through chapter programs.

Volunteer opportunities include:
  • Angels for Aging - Volunteers from Assistance League provide visits, gifts and cards to residents of assisted living facilities in our communities.
  • Kids on the Block - An educational puppet program performed in schools to enlighten children about bullying, school safety and learning differences.
  • Dressing for Success - A program providing women and men entering or re-entering the workforce with job appropriate clothing.
  • Operation School Bell - An outreach program which gives school children an opportunity to shop for new school clothing and shoes.

Then, one day per quarter, God's Closet will open for parents and guardians of children to come 'shop' free of charge, with the exception of a small admission fee- usually $1.00, from our selection of donated supplies.

Serves those who care for foster children and children in crisis by providing free access to a community supported clothing closet featuring clothing, school gear, and basic necessities.
Collects new and gently used clothing to be packaged with new socks, under garments, and a book which is then distributed to children in foster care or in crisis who have been referred by foster agencies, churches, outreach programs, school principals, teachers, and counselors.

This is one of many possible First 5 Nevada County Ready to Grow (R2G) program resources. Ready to Grow resources are those that support the well-being of children ages 0-5.

The Nevada County Superintendent of Schools houses a McKinney-Vento Community School liaison. The McKinney–Vento Homeless Assistance Act is a U.S. federal law providing federal money to homeless shelter programs.

Homeless Youth Services provides school-aged youth experiencing homelessness with additional support and services to ensure that all students have equal access to educational opportunities. 

Services include:
  • Dispute resolution
  • Community outreach and referrals
  • Funding for school activities and educational needs
  • Staff development materials
  • Attendance services

Families and students experiencing homelessness can reach out to their school's Homeless Liaison to ask about services and programs that their child may qualify for. Services that your school may be able to provide include:

Provides diapers to young, low-income families who struggle to provide diapers for their babies.  Distributes diapers throughout Nevada County at various distribution centers.

Conducts frequent diaper drives and fundraisers to help keep the supply of diapers sufficient to meet the output of several hundred diapers per week.
