The City of Grass Valley operates 7 public parks and offers a variety of activities that include: recreational swimming, indoor and outdoor volleyball, tennis lessons, skate camp, open gym basketball, over-the-line softball, pitch-hit-run, punt-pass-kick, and a drop-in summer recreation program.

GVPR has over 120 acres of park space that includes trails, picnic areas, ball fields, bocce courts, tennis courts, a swimming pool, a skate park, and a disc golf course. The City also has three public assembly halls that are available for rent and collaborates with the Nevada County Historical Society to manage the Pelton Wheel Mining Museum at the former Northstar Powerhouse.

The Nevada City Parks & Recreation Mission is to provide a system of parks, trails, recreational facilities, programs and services that will enrich the lives of citizens.

Parks, open space, trails, a swimming pool, summer programs, and recreational classes are among the programs and services that Nevada City offers through its Parks & Recreation Department. The Department employs one full- time employee year round and approximately 35 seasonal staff during the summer months.

Facility rentals - The Nevada City Veteran's Memorial Building and Seaman's Lodge provide meeting space services for public use. Rental fees are charged and appointments must be made in advance for the use of these buildings.
