SafetyNet Wireless offers federal Lifeline and California LifeLine service, which are government benefit programs that provide free phones, and discounts on monthly telephone service for eligible low-income consumers.

If you or another person in your household is enrolled in a public assistance program such as Medicaid/Medi-Cal or CalFresh, or your total annual income is at or less than 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines, you may qualify for the California Lifeline or federal Lifeline benefit.

As of April 2022, people in Nevada and Placer Counties can make an appointment with Donnie Lawson to obtain a phone. He can meet people at some of the shelters for people experiencing homelessness, The Salvation Army in Auburn, and may be able to arrange other locations as well. Call Donnie Lawson at 916-926-3906.

The discount helps ensure that low-income consumers can afford 21st century broadband and the access it provides to jobs, healthcare, and educational resources.

Lifeline During Coronavirus Pandemic
To help keep Americans connected during the coronavirus pandemic, the FCC has temporarily waived recertification, reverification, general de-enrollment, subscriber usage, income documentation, and documentation requirements for subscribers residing in rural areas on Tribal lands, and has extended those waivers until June 30, 2021. Project GO processes applications for Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Project Go also processes applications for utility payment assistance through the American Relief Plan Act (ARPA) of 2021 while funds last. It is the same application as for LIHEAP and Project Go staff can determine which program is most appropriate for different people to apply for. As of November 2021, LIHEAP can pay up to $1,000 to qualified applicants and ARPA can pay up to $3,000.
