RE: RECYCLING - The Loma Rica (Grass Valley) recycling center site was damaged in the winter storms of 2023. WM has no date for when it might reopen, so all recycling services will be at the McCourtney Rd Transfer Station until further notice. People can watch the WM Facebook page for any updates:

E-WASTE & BATTERIES - Electronic waste and batteries can be taken to the McCourtney Rd Transfer Station. Free to leave most e-waste. Exceptions include large appliances.

MATTRESS DISPOSAL - All Nevada County residents, regardless of if you are a WM customer can drop off up to 5 mattresses and/or box springs combined for free at the McCourtney Road Transfer Station.
- Bring your mattresses and/or box springs to the transfer station and tell the attendant you’re dropping off only mattresses and/or box springs and you’ll be directed to the free drop off area.
- Please note, if you have other items to dispose of, or more than five mattresses and/or box springs combined, you will be charged standard disposal rates. Make sure to only bring your mattresses and/or box springs to take advantage of this free program.
- Mattresses not covered by this program include severely damaged, wet, twisted, frozen, or spoiled mattresses or box springs, any mattress or box spring infested with bed bugs, mattress pads or toppers, sleeping bags, pillows, car beds, crib mattresses, air mattresses, and sofa bed mattresses.
- This is a partnership between WM of Northern CA/Nevada, the Mattress Recycling Council, and Bye Bye Mattress.

NOTHING LARGER WILL BE ACCEPTED AT MCCOURTNEY ROAD TRANSFER STATION. The limb size limit is because of equipment size at their 3rd party processor. - Rent a Green Waste Dumpster: Rent a 20, 30, or 40-yard green waste dumpster on yourown, or split the cost with neighbors. Customers are asked to follow enhanced safety procedures when accessing McCourtney Road Transfer Station and the HHW and Metals drop off areas.
HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE
Hours of Operation for HHW - Individual Households: Friday – Sunday, 8am to 3:30pm
- Commercial Customers Hours for Household Hazardous Waste Facility: Appointment required. Please call (530) 274-0120
In addition to a facility-wide requirement to wear masks, customers utilizing the HHW and Metals drop off areas are required to:
- Always stay in vehicle unless directed otherwise by staff.
- Have HHW and metals materials in pickup bed, unlocked trunk or hatchback for staff to easily access and remove materials. Staff will not remove materials from back seats.
- Lower car window no more than three inches when conducting verbal questionnaire for HHW drop off. Please keep mask on when answering questions.
These rules have been put in place to minimize direct contact between employees and customers at McCourtney Road Transfer Station.
Acceptable HHW items: aerosol cans, propane tanks (large for grills and smaller camping versions), household cleaners, herbicides, pesticides, insecticides, oil filters, oil, gasoline, cooking oil, paints, batteries and automotive chemicals.
Items not accepted: ammunition, asbestos, biohazards, compressed gas cylinders, treated wood and medications.
The metal drop-off accepts all material comprised of 85 percent metal including tire rims, fencing, golf clubs, lawn mowers (remove fluids), barbeques and playground sets.
McCourtney Road Transfer Station continues to accept trash, green waste and comingled recycling.
