Any Nevada County resident who has a current positive test result for COVID-19 or who has long COVID may be eligible for some County services if they have no other support available from family or friends. Positive test result can be from a testing site or a home antigen test. If a home test, a public health nurse will determine if a PCR/on site test is needed. People in these situations can call 211 to be put on a list. County staff will contact them to see if they can assist with services.
 
For people with a current positive COVID test result, the County may be able to provide supplies that can be ordered online for delivery:

CalFresh is a food supplement program, formerly known as Food Stamps or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), that helps qualified individuals obtain nutritious food.

ELIGIBILITY 
Many CalFresh customers work and are considered low income. Others may be unable to work due to lack of work or inability to work; individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI and SSD), and Social Security are eligible for CalFresh. Individuals receiving or authorized to receive SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment) are eligible for CalFresh, provided all other eligibility criteria are met.

CalWORKs is a public assistance program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have a child(ren) in the home. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments.

The County of Placer has four CalWORKs offices: Rocklin, Carnelian Bay (Tahoe), and two in Auburn. Services available at each location differ. See detail below.

If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses.

The amount of a family‘s monthly assistance payment depends on a number of factors, including the number of people who are eligible and the special needs of any of those family members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family receives.

Alpha Oaks offers:

• Residential care and detox (of alcohol and drugs)
• Group and individual counseling sessions
• Aftercare services
• Perinatal treatment

Alpa Oaks is open to women over the age of 18. There is no discrimination in the delivery of service due to race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, disability or ability to pay. The licensed Detox center can accommodate five women. It is under 24-hour supervision by specialized staff who are trained in dealing with the detox process and have immediate access to emergency medical assistance when necessary.

Residents are encouraged and assisted in planning their own recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.

Offers complete health assessments by medical providers for the early detection and prevention of disease and disabilities in children and youth. Services also include well baby, child and teen check-ups and care, school entry exams, and sports and camp physicals.

The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County offers brush chipping that has been cleared from defensible space of any permanent structure, and/or 30 feet from any roadside or driveway used for evacuation purposes.

2022 Chipping Program is up and running. Wait times can be 2-6 weeks. Our chipping service is limited to 4 hours per customer per application for $75/hour. A limited number of applications may qualify for free chipping services based on income, age, and/or disability.
