ADVOCATES FOR DISASTER JUSTICE - ADJ #86640910
Advocates for Disaster Justice is the new era of DisasterLegalAid.org, a groundbreaking national collaboration and legal relief effort that took root in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Under the leadership of Pro Bono Net, Lone Star Legal Aid, the American Bar Association Center for Pro Bono, and the National Aid & Defender Association, Advocates for Disaster Justice has grown into the largest national network of justice advocates and allies working to advance equity, rights, and resilience in communities impacted by climate-driven and other disasters. Since the major disasters of 2017, Pro Bono Net, Lone Star Legal Aid, and our allies have trained more than 5,000 advocates, networked hundreds of organizations to harness the power of shared experience, and mobilized new resources to strengthen the legal response effort in times of crisis. CALFRESH (FOOD STAMPS)
CalFresh, formerly known as Food Stamps and known federally as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), can help families and individuals put healthy and nutritious food on the table. CalFresh provides extra funds to help those who are in need each month to buy groceries. With a CalFresh electronic “debit” card (known as EBT) you can buy most foods at many food stores and farmers markets. Even if temporary, individuals and families who have experienced a change in their circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and need additional help, may apply for CalFresh.
More information is available at https://www.placer.ca.gov/2103/CalFresh-Food-Stamps although, it is for reference only. Speak to a Human Services staff person for the most up-to-date info.
