RIVER FIRE RECOVERY

RECOVERY NAVIGATORS FOR NEVADA COUNTY RESIDENTS
Connecting Point offers Recovery Navigators for Nevada County residents impacted by the River Fire. Call 211 or 833-342-5211 to receive a referral to a Navigator who will contact you within one business day to offer assistance during your recovery process.

Navigators will work one-on-one with individuals and families that have been impacted by the River Fire. Meeting regularly and as needed, the Navigators will be able to work with you step-by-step throughout the recovery process, provide you with resources for any need that comes up, navigate the County, State, Federal re-building processes that you will encounter, advocate for additional resources as needed, provide a physical place where you can print, fax, email, and copy documents, and keep you up to date with any updates as they are released.

The caller’s answers are entered by the 211 call specialist into HUD’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), which can be accessed only by designated organizations that provide housing services. Callers have access to emergency shelter as well as long term/permanent housing by going through the Coordinated Entry process.

People who are mandatorily evacuated due to wildfire or other disasters may have homeowners' or renters' insurance coverage to help with evacuation and relocation costs, even if their homes are not damaged or destroyed.

Additional Living Expense coverage, known as ALE, typically includes:
  • Food and housing costs
  • Furniture rental, relocation and storage
  • And extra transportation expenses

Who to Contact:
Residents who have been evacuated should contact their insurance agent and/or the California Department of Insurance to find out what their renter's or homeowners' policy covers and other resources that may be available to them while the mandatory evacuation orders are in place. Evacuees are urged to contact their insurance company to verify their ALE coverage provision and limits and learn about requirements to use the coverage.
