Provides diapers to young, low-income families who struggle to provide diapers for their babies.  Distributes diapers throughout Nevada County at various locations.

Conducts frequent diaper drives and fundraisers to help keep the supply of diapers sufficient to meet the output of several hundred diapers per week.

Chapa-De provides prenatal health services at both our Auburn and Grass Valley Health Centers.

In addition to regular appointments with your doctor, our Baby Luv Program helps women get the education and services needed for a healthy pregnancy and healthy baby.

Chapa-De's services include:
  • Check-ups at Chapa-De once a month or more until your 34th week, where you would then start having weekly appointments at Chapa-De with OBGYNs from Camelia Women’s Health who can deliver your baby at Mercy San Juan Medical Center
  • Tests to check your health and the health of your baby
  • Classes and one-on-one information about pregnancy, child birth, baby care, and breastfeeding
  • Referral to community agencies that can provide additional help and services
  • Information about where to go for financial help, health insurance like Medi-Cal, or food programs like WIC or local food banks

If you are having a life-threatening emergency call 9-1-1. For example, if you have lost power to essential life-sustaining medical devices and do not have backup power for them, or you have a medical need for temperature control.

FREED works with the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC) and PG&E to support people with disabilities and older adults during a Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) event or other emergencies due to power shutoffs. The goal is to enable them to remain safe while independent in their residences and communities. 

Funding for some services listed below is ONLY for PSPS events (or other power outage events for which PG&E may activate FREED). There is no funding for generators. No generators are available through any of these programs.

The Public Guardian responds to referrals from Adult Protective Services, local law enforcement agencies, and the Superior Court to investigate persons, usually elderly, who are unable to properly provide for their personal needs of physical health, food, clothing or shelter, who are at risk of undue influence by others, or whose property is subject to loss, injury, waste or mismanagement. The Court will determine, based on recommendations, which rights will be lost and retained.

When appointed by the court, the Public Guardian arranges for the conservatee's placement, protection and care. Coordinates and oversees the delivery of needed services. Manages the conservatee's finances, locates and controls conservatee property, collects income, pays bills, invests the conservatee's money and protects estate assets.

United Way of Nevada County allocates donated funds from annual fundraising campaign to qualified Nevada County non-profit human service organizations; forwards donor designated funds to non-profit health and human service organizations; collaborates with local government, education, local businesses and humans service organizations.

Hospitality House offers a year-round, temporary, overnight emergency shelter for homeless residents of Western Nevada County who have lived in the county for 45 days or more. ID not required.

Services available to those who are staying at the shelter include:
  • Emergency shelter

  • Customized case management
  • Mental health counseling
  • Enrichment classes

Spirit Peer Empowerment Center offers support groups for people experiencing homelessness and/or mental health challenges.

Support services include:
  • Staff can administer naloxone Narcan in case of opioid overdose (naloxone is the drug, Narcan is a brand)
  • Housing Circle - assists with completing low income apartment applications, Craigslist searching, housing advocacy, and more. Call 530-274-1431 for meeting time info.
  • WRAP (Wellness Recovery Action Plan) education, an eight week course supporting individuals to succeed at the goals they set for themselves, including looking at triggers and addictions and ways to get beyond them
  • Food distribution to those in need
  • Hot showers for program participants - They offer 5 showers per day, 10am-1:30pm. It's recommended to be there a bit before they open at 10am to get one as they are first come, first served. Shower is ADA-compliant, but not roll in. Please notify in advance if needed.
