If you are an adult with dependent children, you may be eligible for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, or CalWORKs. CalWORKs provides:
  • Child care, work expense assistance, transportation, and counseling
  • Education, employment, and training programs through Employment Services
  • Families with children financial assistance to meet their basic needs
  • Support for families moving toward self-sufficiency

Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides job training to Placer County residents aged 55 and over. SCSEP is a community service and work-based training program for older workers. Authorized by the Older Americans Act, the program provides subsidized, service-based training for low-income (not more than 125% of the established federal poverty guidelines) persons at least 55 years of age who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects. Participants in the SER SCSEP come from all walks of life, have diverse work experiences, and possess various levels of education.

  • The Be Bold Youth Program pairs youth with an adult partner who will become someone they can trust, learn with, and grow alongside. Youth will meet weekly for fun-centered and life skill building activities. The Veterans Service Center, opened in March 2015, is equipped with a high speed internet café where veterans can build resumes, apply for jobs, and video chat with friends and family. PG&E championed the project recruiting many local and national companies to add additional support.

Many resources and referrals are also available from the center staff as well as information on other Volunteers of America Veterans programs.
