Beyond ADA (Supplemental) Service: Nevada County, via Nevada County Now, provides supplemental paratransit service up to 3/4 of a mile beyond the mandated 3/4 mile ADA service area boundary. The Senior Firewood Program provides qualified seniors a limited amount of pine/fir to supplement their other home heating sources when wood is available. Also accepts donations of wood as able.

PLEASE NOTE: Anyone wanting to apply to receive wood or donate wood should call to learn the current status of the program. Wood supplies generally run out each season and there are not always enough volunteers to accept wood donations. Call 530-615-4541 to learn when applications open and whether donations are currently being accepted.

At times when the Senior Firewood Program is out of wood, Project Go may be able to help both Nevada & Placer County residents if they are income eligible for LIHEAP (they do not need to be seniors, just income qualified). Call 916-782-3443.

The Senior Outreach Nurse program provides health services to county residents 60 years and older. Offers comprehensive health and safety assessments, health screenings, fall prevention education, medication education/management resources, and continued in-home follow-up. In-home assessments review a client's medical, social, and environmental needs and offer health education consistent with client's needs. Will discuss referrals that are appropriate for clients, and help link them to other community resources and services. Provides follow-up visits and telephone calls as needed.

Offers outreach such as community based blood pressure clinics, flu shots in conjunction with Public Health, and participate in local health/wellness programs. Flu shots can be given to seniors in their homes. Call 530-265-1470 to arrange.

This resource is eligible for electronic referral. The FREED Telephone Reassurance program is for anyone feeling lonely or isolated in Nevada County. A phone bank of volunteers makes phone calls Monday - Friday to check-in, chat, and socialize. The FREED Friendly Visitor program is not conducting in-person visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
