On July 12, 2022, the Placer County Board of Supervisors approved the establishment of a Defensible Space Fuels Reduction Pilot Program and committed $200,000 in funding for the 2-year pilot period. The goal of the program is to assist vulnerable residents in creating defensible space around their homes and properties in order to reduce the risk of loss of life and property in the event of a wildfire. The program will provide up to $5,000 per property to property owners in unincorporated Placer County who have very low income and are elderly or disabled to hire a contractor to assist in bringing The property into compliance with the County’s Hazardous Vegetation Ordinance requirements.

The National Weather Service issues Red Flag Warnings & Fire Weather Watches to alert fire departments of the onset, or possible onset, of critical weather and dry conditions that could lead to rapid or dramatic increases in wildfire activity.

  • A Red Flag Warning is issued for weather events which may result in extreme fire behavior that will occur within 24 hours.
  • A Fire Weather Watch is issued when weather conditions could exist in the next 12-72 hours.

DISABILITY DISASTER ACCESS AND RESOURCES PROGRAM - CFILC

The Disability Disaster Access and Resources Program (DDAR) a joint effort with the California Foundation for Independent Living Centers (CFILC) and PG&E to support people with disabilities and older adults before, during, and after a PSPS event.

The program enables qualified customers who use electrical medical devices to access backup portable batteries through a grant, lease-to-own or the FreedomTech low-interest financial loan program.

Transportation resources, lodging and food options are also provided through an online application process to qualified customers. CFILC administers all aspects of the program.

Code RED offers notifications to county residents in case of emergencies or other critical community situations requiring alerts. Alerts may be received by means of text, email, landline, cell phone, and TTY. CodeRED is a product of the company called OnSolve. All Nevada County residents are encouraged to sign up. Alerts are sent to evacuation zones that are affected by an incident. To find you evacuation zone number, enter address at Genasys Protect.

Placer Alerts uses Everbridge, a community notification system, to inform residents in Placer, Sacramento, and/or Yolo counties of emergency events and other important public safety information.

Also known as the Regional Mass Notification System, Placer Alerts provides info from Auburn Police Department, Lincoln Police Department, Placer County Sheriff's Office, Rocklin Police Department, Roseville Police Department, and the Placer County Office of Emergency Services.

Sign up for Placer Alerts online. You can download the Everbridge mobile app to receive notifications through your smartphone. It also includes a map where you can search for current alerts in your vicinity.
