The Medical Board of California (Board) investigates complaints involving:
  • Medical doctors (M.D.s)
  • Midwives 
  • Polysomnographic trainees, technicians, and technologists
  • Research psychoanalysts
In addition, Board staff reviews and investigates complaints about Doctors of Podiatric Medicine; however, any disciplinary action taken against the respective licensees is decided by the licensing Board/Bureau for that profession.

If an individual or organization appears to have violated the laws within the Board's jurisdiction, Board staff will investigate the allegations and charges may be filed.

The Never a Bother youth suicide prevention campaign prepares young people to recognize warning signs of suicide and offers guidance on how they can support themselves or a friend before, during, and after a crisis.

Digital resources are available on the campaign website; for young people, there are two options to choose from that determine what kind of resources are provided:

  • Help for Me - Resources for young people who are actively having thoughts of suicide, undergoing a crisis, or feel that their mental health is worsening.
  • Help for My Friend - Resources for young people who are looking to assist someone close to them who is undergoing a crisis or has expressed suicidal ideation/the intent to begin a suicide attempt.

Nevada Insight Respite Center (IRC) offers respite program for individuals with mental health challenges going through difficult times in order to prevent crisis intervention or hospitalization. Insight Respite Center is a peer centered program where guests are treated as equals on their road to recovery. They realize that fostering of self-esteem and self-respect is crucial to the health and well being of an individual. Peer Supporters are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for guests to connect with and experience mutual learning. We offer hope, compassion and understanding in a stigma-free environment.

To make a referral, please call Nevada County Behavioral Health at 530-265-1437 and ask to speak with the intake person of the day. If an individual is accepted, they will be contacted by a peer from Insight Respite.

Lotus Behavioral Health Crisis Center provides a voluntary urgent care center for Placer County residents experiencing a mental health crisis.

Lotus is a short-term place to stay, designed to provide an appropriate level of care. Length of stay is 23 hours, or up to 48 hours if awaiting connection to additional resources. Individuals can decompress for up to two days and be treated by trained clinicians. Together, they work to address the immediate crisis and create a plan to access needed wrap-around services before discharge, including housing needs, social services or substance use treatment.

Placer County adults experiencing mental health challenges can call a 24-hour phone line, 888-886-5401, to be screened for a variety of other mental health programs offered.

Other services ranging from outpatient therapy to psychiatric hospitalization are also offered onsite, primarily serving Medi-Cal recipients.
