Local United Ways across California are accepting applications for the Farm and Food Worker Relief (FFWR) Program. Participating local United Ways (or other contracted organizations) will be distributing a one-time $600 relief payment to eligible farm workers, agricultural workers, and food processing workers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • There is no cost to apply for the program.
  • Eligible applicants can only apply once.
  • Multiple applications will be denied.
Important: Due to very high demand and limited funding, United Ways of California does not guarantee payment, even when an application has been completed and deemed eligible.

Who Qualifies
  • Frontline workers who worked in California at any given time during the COVID-19 pandemic from March 2020, until the pandemic was declared over (May 11, 2023).
  • Workers who were at least 13 at the time they worked.

Vouchers for reduced fees for California ID cards are available for people receiving Nevada County welfare assistance programs (veterans, eligibility & employment, Adult Services or Child Welfare assistance programs).
 
Go to one of the three Nevada County Department of Social Services offices and ask for a voucher. A county worker must sign the voucher. People who are homeless and on public assistance are eligible to receive a free ID card. This does not replace drivers licenses, only identification cards.

Advocates meet with clients on a bi-weekly or weekly basis to set goals using a strengths-based, client-centered approach. The program works to connect clients with resources and to assist clients in navigating all GHC services when appropriate, such as counseling, name and gender change assistance, health insurance options, economic empowerment program, hormone clinics and legal health clinics.

Name and Gender Change Paperwork Assistance 
Advocates assist clients in filling out name and gender change court paperwork and identity documents, such as driver license, birth certificate, passport and social security changes; become familiar with the court process for changing name and gender; provide information to clients around the process for legal name and gender change.
