Sierra Senior Services offers community dining at the Truckee Donner Senior Apartments at 10040 Estates Drive, Truckee, CA 96161. Open to the public Tuesday through Friday from Noon-12:30pm. Visitors under the age of 60 may enjoy lunch for a contribution of $10 per meal. Voluntary contribution for seniors is $6 per meal but no senior will be turned away due to inability to contribute.

Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal provides garbage and refuse removal and curbside recycling.

For questions about senior discount eligibility for residential service call 530-583-7800. Eligibility requirements include being a full time resident at the service address and being enrolled in the CARE utility payment assistance plan through the electric utility provider.

There is no senior discount for use of the transfer station.

CALFRESH (FOOD STAMPS)

CalFresh, formerly known as Food Stamps and known federally as SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), can help families and individuals put healthy and nutritious food on the table. CalFresh provides extra funds to help those who are in need each month to buy groceries. With a CalFresh electronic “debit” card (known as EBT) you can buy most foods at many food stores and farmers markets. Even if temporary, individuals and families who have experienced a change in their circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and need additional help, may apply for CalFresh.

Medi-Cal assistance is available through Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal offers medical, dental, vision and mental health care to eligible individuals and families at little or no cost. If you are ineligible to Medi-Cal, affordable insurance plans are available through the health benefits exchange, Covered California, during their November through December open enrollment.
