Animal Services is a Division of County of Placer Health & Human Services. There are Animal Shelters in Auburn and Truckee.

Placer County Animal Services strives to improve the lives of animals in their care through community outreach and education, providing veterinary treatment and preventative care, reuniting lost pets with their families and ensuring positive outcomes through adoption, rescue or foster programs.

ANIMAL CONTROL SERVICES
We provide many services to residents, businesses, and law enforcement agencies within Placer County, including:
  • Responding to loose, injured, or dead animals on public and county roads
  • Animal abuse and neglect investigations
  • Emergency assistance to law enforcement agencies
  • County-wide rabies control
  • Education on humane treatment of animals
  • Responding to reports of barking dogs and stray animals
  • Enforcing state law and county ordinances regulating animal care and welfare
  • Inspection of commercial kennels
  • Investigating animal bites and rabies exposure
