Californians in Lassen, Nevada, Placer, and Plumas counties who have been impacted by wildfires that started in July and August 2021 can now file for federal Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).
 
The California Employment Development Department (EDD) administers these benefits, which are available to workers, business owners, and self-employed individuals who lost their jobs or businesses, or had their work hours reduced due to the ongoing wildfires.

AMI Housing, Inc (AMIH) is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that provides housing, employment  and life skills programs to residents of Nevada County and Placer County who otherwise might be homeless. AMIH also manages and operates Nevada County Housing Development Corporation.​

AMIH’s Emergency Solutions Grant Rapid Rehousing program can help people who are low income and are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Any rent payment assistance help is based on their income and need.  Some people get help with the security deposit, first month’s rent, and then a few months of rental assistance.  Others get help for longer and some for shorter period of time.  The extent of rental assistance depends on the individual and their need. A housing counselor will help them find a suitable and affordable apartment in Nevada or Placer County.
