Sierra Community House offers Mediation and Legal Assistance which provides free and reduced cost legal services in a clinic setting for civil legal matters. All services are available in multiple languages and available on a sliding scale.

LEGAL ASSISTANCE
Sierra Community House provides limited scope representation, including information, support, and conflict resolution to resolve many legal issues community members face. They do not provide legal representation in court. They may be able to provide assistance in the following areas:
  • Family Law
  • Immigration Law
  • Landlord/tenant Law
  • Employment Law
  • Small Claims/Contract Matters
  • Civil Harassment Restraining Orders
  • Name Changes
  • Guardianship and Conservatorship
  • Know Your Rights and Be Prepared Education
  • Understanding the worker’s compensation process
If they cannot provide the assistance you need, they will do their best to refer you to an agency that can.

MILTAX - US DOD

If you’re in the military, you can use MilTax, a service provided by the Department of Defense that uses a version of H&R Block’s tax software.

It is available for free to active-duty service members as well as those in the Guard or Reserves, as well as their families. There are no income or tax form restrictions.

What is a Representative Payee (Rep. Payee)?

A Representative Payee is an individual or organization that the Social Security Administration (SSA) appoints to receive and manage the RSDI (Retirement, Survivors, and Disability Insurance), SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance), or SSI (Supplemental Security Income) benefits of another person, also referred to as a beneficiary. A rep. payee must use the benefits they receive for the use and benefit, and in the best interest of, the beneficiary.

Crisis counseling
Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking can obtain crisis counseling at any time, day or night, either by calling the Stand Up Placer 24-hour Helpline at 1-800-575-5352, using our chat feature, or by coming into one of our service offices during business hours: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A trained advocate will assess the survivors’ situations, help them with a safety plan, and go over various options with them.

Shelter and safe housing
