Placer County Children's System of Care provides foster care licensing and adoptive home studies to families who are interested in opening their homes. Placer County works in partnership with several community based organizations such as Koinonia Family Services, Stanford Sierra Youth & Families, and Wayfinder Family Services to recruit and educate new foster and adoptive parents.

A telephone call can bring help in a crisis. For at-risk children in emergencies and crisis situations, a special 24-hour, 7-day a week, response program is available by calling Family and Children's Services: 916-872-6549 or toll free 866-293-1940.

The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program helps pay for services so that individuals can remain safely in their own homes, in contrast to care facilities.

To be eligible, you must be over 65 years of age, disabled, or blind. Disabled children are also potentially eligible for IHSS. IHSS is considered an alternative to out-of-home care, such as nursing homes or board and care facilities.

The Placer County Public Administrator manages the estates of county residents who pass away without known relatives who are willing and able to act as administrators. 

The office ensures that assets are protected and properly handled in accordance with state law.

When needed, staff secure property, locate next of kin, arrange for burial or cremation, and may administer the estate directly if no heirs are found.

Services include:

  • Investigation and administration of estates for Placer County decedents
  • Protection of property and financial assets
  • Coordination of final arrangements for individuals without known family
  • Efforts to identify and contact potential next of kin
  • County-led estate administration when no heirs are located

Additional notes:

The Public Administrator acts only when no eligible person is available or willing to serve as administrator.

Placer County Adult System of Care provides Substance Use Disorder Services to support residents in recovery from substance use.

Services include:

  • Individual and group treatment
  • Case management and recovery support
  • Outpatient and residential services
  • Referrals to detox programs and medically assisted treatment
  • Coordination with mental health and housing programs, as needed

Note:
