The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program provides free tax assistance to qualifying individuals and families who earned less than $67,000 in 2024.

The coalition also helps educate the public on the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

VITA is available through Placer County Health and Human Services in cooperation with IRS and United Way.

Preparation assistance is available online at YourFreeTaxPrep.org or in person by IRS trained volunteers.

FieldHaven Feline Center’s FieldHaven Animal Support Team (FHAST) responds to disaster incidents by providing emergency shelter and care for cats and other small animals displaced by wildfires, evacuations, or other crises.

FHAST deploys trained volunteers and veterinary staff to offer on-site animal care, transport support, and compassionate assistance to pet owners.

The program prioritizes pet safety and trauma-informed sheltering in collaboration with local emergency response systems.

Services include:

  • Emergency animal sheltering for cats and pocket pets during disasters
  • On-site and off-site veterinary care for animals requiring medical support
  • Transportation assistance for evacuated or rescued animals
  • Volunteer response teams trained in FEMA protocols and animal disaster care
  • Preparedness education, evacuation guides, and community outreach

ATOU's in-school workshop provides a potent, life-changing opportunity for students to meet people with disabilities and to experience for themselves what it may be like to have a disability. The workshop is broken up into two parts.

  • Part 1: Speakers with disabilities talk about their life, their challenges, and how they achieve their goals. During the hour and a half session, students are encouraged to interact with these volunteers and ask questions.

Seniors First's Telephone Reassurance Program provides homebound seniors with “social calls” by screened and trained volunteers.

The purpose of this free program is to alleviate the loneliness and isolation older adults often experience when living alone, or when residing in a rural area with limited access to transportation or social activities.

Call Reassurance provide weekly in-home social calls and also serve as a resource on community services and programs that can help the client retain their independence and remain in their home as long as they choose.

Seniors must be 60 and over, homebound (no longer driving), and able to interact socially.

Volunteer and senior matches are based on shared interests, geography, volunteer availability and personality as much as possible.
