Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides job training to Placer County residents aged 55 and over. SCSEP is a community service and work-based training program for older workers. Authorized by the Older Americans Act, the program provides subsidized, service-based training for low-income (not more than 125% of the established federal poverty guidelines) persons at least 55 years of age who are unemployed and have poor employment prospects. Participants in the SER SCSEP come from all walks of life, have diverse work experiences, and possess various levels of education.

Kaleidoscope of Employment for Youth Success - KEYS is a collaborative project between the Placer County Office of Education Foster Youth Services (FYS), the Department of Rehabilitation, and PRIDE Industries. This program is designed to ensure successful employment outcomes for foster youth, ages 16-19, who have significant barriers to employment.​​

Placer County foster youth, ages 16-19 years old, are matched with individual Job Developers who provide pre-employment support and assistance with obtaining and retaining employment local in a field of interest.

Eligible youth must have a significant barrier to gaining employment, including a mental health diagnosis, physical disability or special education designation. Proof of eligibility will be requested.

AMI Housing, Inc (AMIH) is a California 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation that provides housing, employment and life skills programs to residents of Nevada County and Placer County who otherwise might be homeless. AMIH also manages and operates Nevada County Housing Development Corporation.​ Offers assistance in multiple languages through a Language Line service.

AMIH’s programs can help people who are low income and are homeless, or at risk of homelessness. Any rent payment assistance help is based on their income and need. Some people get help with the security deposit, first month’s rent, and then a few months of rental assistance. Others get help for longer and some for shorter period of time. The extent of rental assistance depends on the individual and their need. A housing counselor may be able to help them find a suitable and affordable apartment in Nevada County.

The office of the Public Guardian is responsible for investigating the need for LPS, Probate, and Limited conservatorships for Placer County Residents who, as the result of a disability, have lost the ability to care for themselves and have no one else willing and able to care for them.

Types of Conservatorships
  • Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Conservatorships are for people who, as the result of a mental disorder (i.e., Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression) are unable to provide for their own food, shelter, or clothing.
  • Probate Conservatorships are for persons who have been determined by a doctor to lack the capacity to care for themselves, and/or are at risk of financial abuse or undue influence as the result of a condition other than a mental illness (i.e., dementia or head trauma).

The Social Security Administration's Ticket to Work Program supports career development for Social Security disability beneficiaries age 18 through 64 who want to work. The Ticket Program is free and voluntary. The Ticket Program helps people with disabilities progress toward financial independence. Individuals who receive Social Security benefits because of a disability and are age 18 through 64 probably already qualify for the program.
