Stand Up Placer offers Recovery services to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and their families. For more information on all the services listed here, please call our Helpline at 800-575-5352 or our service office at 916-773-7273.

Crisis counseling
Survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking can obtain crisis counseling at any time, day or night, either by calling the Stand Up Placer 24-hour Helpline at 1-800-575-5352, using our chat feature, or by coming into one of our service offices during business hours: 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. A trained advocate will assess the survivors’ situations, help them with a safety plan, and go over various options with them.

Shelter and safe housing

The Victim/Witness program provides advocacy, information, and support services to victims and witnesses of crime in Placer County. Program services are free and available regardless of citizenship status. 

Eligibility requires that the crime be reported to law enforcement, that victims cooperate in the investigation and prosecution, and that victims did not contribute to the events leading to the crime.

Services include:

  • Court escort and support during criminal proceedings
  • Referrals for emergency assistance, including shelter, food, and clothing
  • Follow-up counseling and employer intervention
  • Reimbursement for mental health counseling, medical and dental expenses, wage loss, and emergency relocation costs

The Placer SPCA is here to help the companion animals of Placer County and their owners in times of financial hardship through the Pet Food Assistance program. SPCA provides pet food when available to those in need. No appointment is necessary; however, assistance is dependent on supplies available. Must be a Placer County resident. Food may be picked up every 30 days.

The Placer SPCA receives all pet food in this program solely through donations. They do not have the same brand or type of food for pets at all times. At the time of signing up you must meet and prove all eligibility requirements. The food assistance program is meant to be temporary assistance in your time of need. You will need to reapply annually and all eligibility requirements must be met.

The quantity of food given every 30 days is determined by the size of your animals, using the following guidelines, and is at our discretion.

Volunteers of America (VOA) Family Shelter, Home Start Inc. operates a non-profit emergency shelter (operating 24/7, 365 days a year) for homeless families in Placer County.


Services include:

  • Intensive Case Management

  • Individual units – so rather than a nomadic shelter, each family will have their own unit
  • Food (as needed)
  • Support
  • Live in-person support – after hours
  • Life skills groups
