Each year the Community Support Network collaborates on the Halloween Book Giveaway youth literacy event with a number of other local organizations.

Halloween 2021 Book Giveaway - Drive Up event
WHAT: Spooky Booky Giveaway for ages 0-18 while supplies last

This is one of many possible First 5 Nevada County Ready to Grow (R2G) program resources. Ready to Grow resources are those that support the well-being of children ages 0-5.

Facilitates a drug education program for youth in an effort to eliminate the use and abuse of illegal drugs by all members of society. 

Offers youth activities including: the Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, and essay contests.

Provides scholarship emergency education grants (for children of deceased or disabled Elks family members).

Offers programs for veterans with specific emphasis on outpatients and homeless veterans.



 

Brings agencies, County resources and action groups together to focus on the most important identified community needs in order to build partnerships, forge consensus, and leverage resources to make a measurable difference. Focus areas include: helping children and youth succeed, strengthening and supporting families, promoting self-sufficiency, building vital and safe neighborhoods, and supporting vulnerable and aging populations.

 

Offers diagnostic and treatment services, medical case management, and therapy for child and youth up to age 21.

California Children Services (CCS) is a statewide program that treats children with certain physical limitations and chronic conditions or diseases. Most physically handicapping conditions are eligible for benefits under the CCS program. The CCS Program is funded by the state, county and federal tax money, along with some fees paid by the parents. This tax supported program authorizes and pays for specific medical services and rehabilitation for children by CCS approved specialists and has a Medical Therapy Program (MTU).

Offers complete health assessments by medical providers for the early detection and prevention of disease and disabilities in children and youth. Services also include well baby, child and teen check-ups and care, school entry exams, and sports and camp physicals.

The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Program provides pregnant parents and families with young children free home visits that are tailored to the families' specific needs.

Nurses can meet families in the comfort of their own home or by phone to provide:
• Information about health, caring for your baby, breast/chest feeding, development, parenting, safety, family planning and more
• Links to local services for healthcare, housing, food, transportation, day care, etc.
• Moving Beyond Depression Program for parents with postpartum depression or anxiety

Who can benefit:
• Parents with health concerns during or after pregnancy
• Children and youth with special healthcare needs
• Young and/or first-time parents
• Families without health insurance, are low income, or are homeless
• Families grieving the death of a child

This program is available to all Nevada County.

The Ready to Grow program is funded by First 5 Nevada County and accessed by calling 211 or 833-342-5211. The program is for Nevada County residents and provides information to parents, guardians, caregivers, and childcare providers about programs and services that support the health and well-being of children 0 to 5 years of age. 211 assists in connecting to resources to meet various needs.

Ready to Grow (R2G) offers help in accessing and completing developmental screenings. Call 211 or 833-342-5211 for a referral to a Navigator who will contact you to assist.

Discounted bus fare cards are available for qualified seniors, people with disabilities, and youth passengers. Children's System of Care provides placement approval for matched families through the Resource Family Approval process, and support for parents wishing to voluntarily relinquish their children for adoption.
