The 2026 Placer Veterans Stand Down is scheduled for May 5-6, 2026, at @the Grounds (Roseville fairgrounds) located at 700 Event Center Dr. in Roseville, CA, 95678. All services are free and open to veterans and their families on a first-come, first-served basis on the day of services as capacity allows. The clinic will open at 8:00 am each day. Services are provided at the discretion of the healthcare provider.

Tahoe Helping Hands provides Medical Appointment Transportation. The program helps ensure community members get to healthcare appointments safely, on time, and with dignity. They coordinate rides for seniors and others who need extra support getting to medical and dental visits, lab work, therapy, or other essential care.

Their drivers offer door-through-door assistance, meaning they don’t just drop you off—they help you to the door, and make sure you’re supported every step of the way.

Tahoe Helping Hands serves outlying areas around Truckee within Nevada County, which are not covered by existing local services.

To keep the program safe and reliable:

  • Volunteer drivers are background-checked and trained in transportation best practices.

  • Rides are scheduled in advance and coordinated by their team.

Tahoe Helping Hands provides a Volunteer Visits program where volunteers stop by to lend a hand and check in. Whether it’s folding laundry, changing a lightbulb, tidying up a cluttered space, or just sitting down for a cup of tea, these visits are about offering support and connection.

Many people in our region live alone, far from family, or face mobility challenges that make daily tasks harder. They help fill that gap—with kindness, reliability, and a neighborly spirit.

Each visit is personalized to meet the needs of the individual, and may include:

  • Light household tasks like organizing or tidying up

  • Tech help with phones or computers

  • Companionship and conversation

  • A quick wellness check to make sure everything’s okay

Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy (HICAP) provides free, unbiased information and counseling to Medicare beneficiaries and people becoming eligible for Medicare within six months.

It older adults and people with disabilities in Nevada, Placer, and Yuba-Sutter counties.

Services include:

  • Information about Medicare benefits, coverage options, and enrollment
  • Counseling on supplemental insurance, long-term care insurance, and drug plans
  • Assistance with billing issues, appeals, and denials
  • One-on-one appointments with trained volunteer Medicare counselors
