Provides services to people who are blind or visually impaired including peer and professional counseling, escorted transportation to medical and agency functions, educational classes, and skills training.

Offers clients social opportunities to meet other people who have visual impairments, help in obtaining needed resources and equipment, assistance with blindness related legal or insurance issues, instruction on how to download digital books from the National Library Service.

It is our purpose and mission to provide:

Provides hearing aids and hearing aid repairs. Also offers hearing evaluations, hearing aids, pediatric and geriatric diagnostic audiology, digital hearing, wax removal, and hearing aid cleanings.

Offers diagnostic hearing evaluations for adults and children, hearing aid fittings, hearing aid service and repair, and custom earplugs.

Provides home medical equipment and supplies, including wheelchairs. Specializes in home oxygen equipment, respiratory equipment such as CPAP equipment and supplies as well as nebulizers. Apria Healthcare also provides home enteral feeding and wound pump supplies.

 

The Ear of the Lion hearing aids program is dedicated to assist qualified low-income persons with their hearing problems, who are not eligible for any government-assisted programs, but are diagnosed as needing hearing aids.

Annual Household income must be less than the following: Family of 1, $20,790; Family of 2, $28,035; Family of 3, $35,280; Family of 4, $2,525; Family of 5, $49,770, and going up in increments of approximately $7,000 per additional dependent. If annual income is more than the amount previously listed, the foundation may provide assistance depending on circumstances. Potential clients over the limit are asked to include a hardship letter, which is then reviewed by the Board of Directors. The client must also be a U.S. citizen or legally reside in the U.S.

This resource is eligible for electronic referral. Provides information and resources to help seniors and people with disabilities get the tools and devices they need to support their daily living.

• Assistive Technology - Provides lightly used devices from generous community donations.  Inventory is always changing but may include bathing aids, toileting aids, and mobility devices such as walkers. There is a minimum 2-week turnaround time. To request equipment, call FREED to let them know what you need and they can start the application process. No same-day or walk-in service due to the multi-week wait time.
• Device Lending and Demonstration Center (DLDC) - Allows individuals, family members, businesses, organizations, and schools to borrow mobility, vision, and hearing aides as well as adaptive technology devises for limited periods at no cost.

Provides travel reimbursement to out-of-county treatment centers for cancer patients. Also provides reimbursement for cancer related prescriptions, wigs and supplies, co-payment reimbursement for chemo & radiation, X-rays and scans. Cancer Aid will reimburse up to $8,000 total per patient. Lends durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, commodes etc. Will accept donations of such medical equipment. Monetary donations are always welcome. Cancer patients must be Nevada County residents and be registered with Cancer Aid. Client requests and submits registration paperwork.  Paperwork be signed by their physician, and returned to the case manager at Cancer Aid.

Offers products and high tech innovations for the blind and visually impaired, and individuals with dyslexia and learning disabilities.

ClearCaptions is a call captioning service that provides near real-time display of a caller’s words during phone conversations so people with hearing disabilities can both see and hear what callers are saying.
 
Similar to captioned television, ClearCaptions allows people to see the words callers say on a screen using a home phone or mobile device app.

CTEC provides services in Augmentative & Alternative Communication (AAC), which is the use of personalized methods or devices to increase a person's ability to communicate. Most individuals who use AAC rely on a variety of methods, from "light tech" to "high tech". CTEC will showcase a wide range of AAC systems.
