The Placer County Office of Education (PCOE) in collaboration with Child Advocates of Placer County, provides the Independent Living Program (ILP) for Placer County. ILP provides training, services, and benefits to assist current and former foster youth in achieving self-sufficiency prior to, and after leaving, the foster care system.

The Placer County Independent Living Program (ILP) delivers high quality services in the community where foster youth are living and learning. Our mission is to promote self-sufficiency among transition-aged youth related to:

The Foster and Homeless Youth Liaison ensures proper educational placement, school enrollment, and checkout from school. We welcome community referrals and look for opportunities to partner with other service providers to better meet the needs of the community.

Kinship Support Services Program (KSSP): A kinship family is formed when an extended family member, such as a grandparent, aunt/uncle or sibling, steps in to raise a child when the birth parent(s) are unable or unavailable.

Families served do not have to be formally connected to the foster care system.

This educational grant program has been developed by the Foster Youth Education Fund to support the ongoing educational efforts of youth who are emancipating from foster care in Sacramento County, Yolo County, El Dorado County or Placer County only. Funds raised from an annual fashion show whose models are current and former foster youth and donations from the community at large form the educational grant fund.
