KARE Crisis Nursery provides safe and nurturing care in a home-like setting for small children of families experiencing a stressful situation or emergency. Children up to age 6 receive 24 hour care for up to 30 days. Emergency Day respite, up to 30 times in a 6 month period. Court ordered supervised visitation. Safe Exchanges.

The Sierra Roots Weather Shelter in Nevada City is a program that is activated during extreme hot or cold weather events for one of the most vulnerable populations, the chronically homeless people in our community. Each time a weather event triggers the need to open, enough volunteers are needed also. NOTE: Sierra Roots does not provide motel vouchers or gas cards.

Sierra Roots warming shelter can accommodate up to 30 guests. First come, first served.

The caller’s answers are entered by the 211 call specialist into HUD’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS), which can be accessed only by designated organizations that provide housing services. Callers have access to emergency shelter as well as long term/permanent housing by going through the Coordinated Entry process.
