During winter months, lunch served on Thursdays at 11:30am at the First Baptist Church at 300 Main Street, Nevada City.

During summer months, Thursday lunches are served at 11:30am at Pioneer Park, 421 Nimrod Street in Nevada City in the picnic area near the horseshoe pits.

We are serving a traditional meal on Thanksgiving to people who are experiencing homelessness. It will be at the First Baptist Church, 300 Main St, Nevada City. The doors will open at 10:30am and we serve from 11:30am until 12:30pm.  It is first come first served and we will hand out masks at the door when people come in. No animals are allowed inside the church and if people have vehicles they must park behind the church.  The parking lot on the left side of the church is reserved for all the volunteers bringing food to the church.

Works in collaboration with Grass Valley School District Child Nutrition Services to support changes to the school meal program that enhance freshly made meals with locally and regionally grown fruits and vegetables.

CALFRESH BENEFITS – NEVADA COUNTY
CalFresh Reimbursement. The State of California will issue automatic CalFresh food benefit replacements for residents who lost food due to power outages resulting from the December 27th storm. Replacement benefits will apply to households with physical addresses in the following zip codes:

Benefit replacements will be issued as credit to Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) cards on January 27, 2022. The replacement amount will be 25% of regular December benefits issued December 1st through 10th and Emergency Allotments issued on December 4th.

The Emergency Response Program exists to help non-residents of Nevada County get back home. It can provide, as a loan, homeless motel vouchers, food vouchers, gas money, and bus fare.

  • Must sign up with name and a copy of a photo ID is taken
  • Records are kept on this program and the person that is using the program is supposed to reimburse the program when able

2022 CalFresh Market Money (also known as Market Match) runs June 4 - Nov 19, 2022

Spend CalFresh dollars at Western Nevada County Farmers Markets and receive up to a $10 match per market every week. Come to the Farmers Market booth, show EBT card and photo ID (must be a Nevada County resident), then Market Match tokens will be given to match EBT purchases (up to $10). Tokens can be used to buy food at participating farm stands. Market Match will be available at the SATURDAY and TUESDAY markets. See times and locations below.

From time to time there are giveaways of mosquito fish. Mosquito fish can consume large quantities of insect larvae in your pond or other standing bodies of water. By reducing the mosquito population, you can reduce your risk of contracting mosquito-borne diseases including the West Nile Virus. These fish are not native, they are invasive species. These fish are only meant for closed/stagnant ponds. They should not be placed into ponds that can drain into the local creeks and streams.
