Organizes volunteers to make minor home repairs or modifications which are health or safety related including installation of grab bars and hand rails, repair or replacement of electrical fixtures and leaking drains, help with ramps, and minor repairs to entry steps and porches. Modifications support people with disabilities, including seniors, so that they may continue to live in their own homes. 

This program is offered at our Main Office site in Grass Vallely AND at our Branch Office site in Yuba City.

Assists persons with psychiatric disabilities in reaching self-defined goals while supporting hope, choice, empowerment, inclusion, wellness and recovery. Provides mental health services to clients 18 years and older.

Adult Assertive Community Team (AACT) is a wraparound model where Turning Point team members reach out to people that are having psychiatric disability problems. They spend time with their clients out in the community, working with them step by step to reach the client's goals to find housing, to prepare for and find job opportunities.

The AACT team works closely with Nevada County Mental Health Court, helping clients navigate the court system, prevent arrest and incarceration, obtain psychiatric and medication management services, use peer support and therapy, find housing and jobs, and work towards rehabilitation and recovery.

This resource is eligible for electronic referral. The FREED Telephone Reassurance program is for anyone feeling lonely or isolated in Nevada County. A phone bank of volunteers makes phone calls Monday - Friday to check-in, chat, and socialize. Individuals who would like to receive telephone calls can choose to receive calls from one day a week up to 5 days a week.
 
The FREED Friendly Visitor program is not conducting in-person visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, volunteers are still being matched one-on-one for individuals who prefer to have a friendly phone visit from the same volunteer on a regular basis.
 
Due to factors such as a lack of transportation or community inaccessibility, many seniors and people with disabilities go through prolonged periods of social isolation and loneliness. The Fire Safe Council of Nevada County offers brush chipping that has been cleared from defensible space of any permanent structure, and/or 30 feet from any roadside or driveway used for evacuation purposes.

2020 Chipping Program is up and running. Wait times can be 2-6 weeks. Our chipping service is limited to 4 hours per customer per application for a tax-deductible donation of $75/hour. A limited number of applications may qualify for free chipping services based on income, age, and/or disability.

Health Express provides non-emergency medical transportation on an advance reservation, shared-ride basis for eligible residents of Placer County. In partnership with a local transportation service, Health Express provides low cost rides to health-related appointments for people who are unable to utilize public transportation in Placer County.

Non-Emergency Medical Appointments include:
  • Physicians, physician assistants, certified nurse practitioners
  • Clinicians that provide health and wellness, immunizations, and prevention screening services
  • Vision care

  • Recreation and respite services

Meals on Wheels is the flagship program of the Older Americans Act. It exemplifies a service designed to help Older Adults Age in Place by targeting people who are home alone during the day and who have difficulty preparing simple meals. For clients who need the service temporarily.

Eligibility:
At the time services are provided, clients shall be:
  • 60 years of age or older, sufficiently functionally impaired and homebound; or,
  • The spouse, of any age, of an eligible client; or,
  • A person with a disability (of any age) who lives with an eligible client.
