CalFresh is a food supplement program, formerly known as Food Stamps or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), that helps qualified individuals obtain nutritious food.

ELIGIBILITY 
Many CalFresh customers work and are considered low income. Others may be unable to work due to lack of work or inability to work; individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI and SSD), and Social Security are eligible for CalFresh. Individuals receiving or authorized to receive SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment) are eligible for CalFresh, provided all other eligibility criteria are met. 

Even if temporary, individuals and families who have experienced a change in their circumstances due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and need additional help, may apply for CalFresh. Californians can visit GetCalFresh.org to apply or call 877-847-3663 (FOOD) to be connected to their local county social service office.

Determines cause and manner of death of those persons not in attendance of a physician. The Deputy Sheriff-Coroner initiates reports to assist the pathologist, make death notifications, and retain property of the deceased for safekeeping until the next of kin is available. Government Code 27491 provides which cases will be investigated by the Coroner and what is required.

Autopsies are done for all accidental deaths, suicides, homicides, SIDS cases and natural deaths where the coroner has no previous medical history. Statistical data for deaths in the County are available on the Coroner's website.

Vouchers for reduced fees for California ID cards are available for people receiving Nevada County welfare assistance programs (veterans, eligibility & employment, Adult Services or Child Welfare assistance programs).
 
Go to one of the three Nevada County Department of Social Services offices and ask for a voucher. A county worker must sign the voucher. People who are homeless and on public assistance are eligible to receive a free ID card. This does not replace drivers licenses, only ID cards.

Offers a supplemental assistance program for those persons who are ineligible for aid under any federal or state program which is designed to meet all of the applicant/recipient's needs, such as CalWORKS, or the Supplemental Security Income/Sate Supplementary Payment (SSI/SSP). It is, in large part, an emergency assistance program to be used when other resources are not available or cannot be developed to meet the needs of the applicant(s). General Assistance is a repayable grant, not an entitlement program.

The program also provides temporary services to employable individuals.
