The Nevada County District Attorney prosecutes felony and misdemeanor offenses that are investigated and referred by law enforcement agencies. Specialized vertical prosecution units have been established to handle child abuse, driving under the influence, auto theft, drug, spousal abuse, sexual assault, and statutory rape case. Provides a NSF Bad Check Program.

In Nevada City, there are eight full time Deputy District Attorneys and an Assistant District Attorney. The Investigative Bureau consists of a Chief Investigator, three full-time investigators, three part-time investigators and a legal secretary. The office is supported by eight clerical staff two Victim Advocates and a Senior Admin Analyst.

 

The Nevada County District Attorney provides crime victims with emotional support in the aftermath of crime, guidance through the criminal justice process, assistance in applying for Victim Compensation and awareness of victims' rights. All services are confidential and free of charge.

The Nevada County Historical Society Firehouse No. 1 Museum provides opportunity for visitors to the Historic Firehouse No. 1, which was completed in the Spring of 1861, and housed the Nevada Hose Company No. 1 from 1861 to 1938.

Displays historical collections from the history of early Nevada City, including the Nisenan Indians, the Donner Party, the Chinese and daily life in Nevada County, featuring wedding dresses and an ornate miniature doll house.

2024 Deer Creek Bridge Project & Road Closure in Nevada City Feb 26-Nov 1, 2024 (8 months)

On one side of Deer Creek, this closure is where Broad St becomes Boulder St intersecting with where Sacrament St becomes Nevada St. On the other side it is just toward Deer Creek from where Grove St and High St "T" into Nevada St.

From February 26, 2024 - November 1, 2024, the City of Nevada City will be working with a contractor, Golden State Bridge Inc. to reconstruct the bridge over Deer Creek at Nevada Street. The Nevada City Planning Department contracts with the County of Nevada Building Department to provide Building Department services. Start any building permit process with the City of Nevada City. It will then be referred to the County.

Planning responsibilities include the maintenance of the the City’s General Plan and coordination with regional planning agencies and the state to ensure consistency with the laws that govern land use, development, subdivision, and environmental quality.
