The Animal Control department oversees Animal Control Operations and the Sammie's Friends Animal Shelter.

Services include:

  • Impounding stray animals or owned animals running at large
  • Investigation of nuisance complaints (i.e. barking)
  • Investigating animal bites
  • Dog licensing throughout the unincorporated areas of Nevada County.

Shelter services, including lost or found pets and adoptions, are run by Sammie's Friends.

In the event of disasters and emergencies, the Animal Control department of the Nevada County Sheriff's Office oversees animal evacuation.

Animal Evacuation information is event specific. Details will come from the Nevada County Office of Emergency Services. Though animal evac may be at the Nevada County fairgrounds, it may somewhere else if, for example, there is an event underway at the fairgrounds.
