FREED provides information and resources to help seniors and people with disabilities get the tools and devices they need to support their daily living.

  • Assistive Technology - Provides lightly used devices from community donations. Inventory is always changing but may include bathing aids, toileting aids, and mobility devices such as walkers. There is a minimum 2-week turnaround time. To request equipment, call FREED to let them know what you need and they can start the application process. No same-day or walk-in service due to the multi-week wait time.
  • Device Lending and Demonstration Center (DLDC) - Allows individuals, family members, businesses, organizations, and schools to borrow mobility, vision, and hearing aides as well as adaptive technology devises for limited periods at no cost.

You are eligible for DOR Vocational Rehabilitation services if you:
  • have a disability and want to work
  • are having trouble getting or keeping a job because of your disability
  • need services such as job placement, training, and/or other job preparation to help you get or keep a job, or advance in employment
To get DOR Student Services:
  • You must be a student (you need to be enrolled in school, but it's okay if you're on break or if school hasn't started yet).

Cancer Aid Thrift Shop provides financial assistance to cancer patients who are residents of Nevada County. Help may include:

  • travel reimbursement to out-of-county treatment centers for cancer patients
  • reimbursement for cancer related prescriptions, wigs, and supplies
  • co-payment reimbursement for chemo & radiation, X-rays, and scans
  • the lending of durable medical equipment such as wheelchairs, walkers, commodes etc.

Cancer Aid may reimburse up to several thousand dollars total per patient.

Will accept donations of durable medical equipment, and monetary donations are always welcome.

Cancer patients must be Nevada County residents and be registered with Cancer Aid. Client requests and submits registration paperwork. Paperwork must be signed by their physician, and returned to the case manager at Cancer Aid.
