Placer County Animal Services provides animal care, sheltering, and field services for much of Placer County.

Shelter services include:

• Pet licensing (including new senior discount for qualifying residents)
• Vaccine clinics
• Resources for pet owners
• Connections to local rescue groups and nonprofits
• Shelter tours and community education
• Volunteer and animal foster programs

Field services include:

• Stray animal pickup
• Aggressive animal response
• Animal cruelty and neglect investigations
• Barking complaints
• Public education and disaster response
• Pickup of injured domestic animals and wildlife

Additional notes:

As of May 2025, Placer County residents aged 62 and older may receive 50% off licensing fees for up to two spayed or neutered dogs. Available online or in person. Not valid in Auburn, Roseville, or Rocklin, which manage their own programs.

The Placer County Veterans Service Office in North Lake Tahoe supports veterans, dependents, and survivors with access to local, state, and federal benefits.

Services include:

• Assistance filing VA claims and appeals
• Information about compensation and pension benefits
• Referrals for education, employment, housing, and mental health services
• Help accessing CalVet and federal VA programs
• Survivor and dependent benefit assistance
• Guidance with discharge upgrades and record requests

Services are available to veterans of all eras and discharge types, depending on eligibility.

California Tahoe Conservancy provides free firewood for residents in and around the Lake Tahoe Basin through a seasonal fuelwood permit program.

Details:

• Offers up to two cords of precut (but unsplit) firewood at no cost
• Requires a valid fuelwood permit from the Conservancy
• Participants must haul the wood themselves
• Permits are available on a first-come, first-served basis
