Legal Services of Northern California provides consultations, in-person or by telephone, on legal issues. LSNC serves Nevada and Placer counties. Not all services are available in both counties.

LSNC provides free legal assistance to low-income people who meet eligibility requirements. Services range from referrals to representation, depending upon the client's needs, LSNC priorities and resources available.

LSNC provides counsel, advice, and representation to low-income individuals and seniors involving:

  • Social security
  • Medi-Cal/Medicare
  • Civil rights/discrimination
  • Disability rights
  • Consumer rights
  • Debt and credit issues
  • Simple estate planning

The Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP) Program is a statewide health program whose goal is to assure that all children and youth of families with limited income in California stay healthy by providing complete health exams, preventive services and immunizations to eligible children.

CHDP provides care coordination to assist families with medical appointment scheduling, transportation and access to prompt diagnostic and treatment services to prevent or greatly reduce the severity of suspected problems.

The CHDP program also provides a "gateway" to ongoing health care for children by linking families to health insurance and a medical home.

The office of the Public Guardian is responsible for investigating the need for LPS, Probate, and Limited conservatorships for Placer County Residents who, as the result of a disability, have lost the ability to care for themselves and have no one else willing and able to care for them.

Types of Conservatorships
  • Lanterman-Petris-Short (LPS) Conservatorships are for people who, as the result of a mental disorder (i.e., Schizophrenia, Bipolar Disorder, Major Depression) are unable to provide for their own food, shelter, or clothing.
  • Probate Conservatorships are for persons who have been determined by a doctor to lack the capacity to care for themselves, and/or are at risk of financial abuse or undue influence as the result of a condition other than a mental illness (i.e., dementia or head trauma).

Medi-Cal is a part of Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal offers medical, dental, vision and mental health care to eligible individuals and families at little or no cost. If you are ineligible to Medi-Cal, affordable insurance plans are available through the health benefits exchange, Covered California, during their November through December open enrollment.

PRIDE’s youth services program helps youth with disabilities and those exiting foster care prepare for an independent adult life. These youth are often already at a disadvantage, and through this program, PRIDE provides individualized services and a mentoring relationship to help each individual address their unique educational and employment needs. Services include paid work experience, soft skills employment training, tutoring, employment placement assistance, and job coaching.

Volunteers of AmericaFamily Shelter, Home Start Inc. is a non-profit shelter (operating 24/7, 365 days a year) for homeless families in Placer County.

Alpha Oaks offers:

Alpa Oaks is open to women over the age of 18. There is no discrimination in the delivery of service due to race, religion, ethnicity, sexual preference, disability or ability to pay. The licensed Detox center can accommodate five women. It is under 24-hour supervision by specialized staff who are trained in dealing with the detox process and have immediate access to emergency medical assistance when necessary.

Residents are encouraged and assisted in planning their own recovery from alcoholism and drug addiction.
