The Mediation and Legal Assistance Program provides free and reduced cost legal services in a clinic setting for civil legal matters.

CalWORKs is a public assistance program that provides cash aid and services to eligible families that have a child(ren) in the home. The program serves all 58 counties in the state and is operated locally by county welfare departments.

The County of Placer has four CalWORKs offices: Rocklin, Carnelian Bay (Tahoe), and two in Auburn. Services available at each location differ. See detail below.

If a family has little or no cash and needs housing, food, utilities, clothing or medical care, they may be eligible to receive immediate short-term help. Families that apply and qualify for ongoing assistance receive money each month to help pay for housing, food and other necessary expenses.

The amount of a family‘s monthly assistance payment depends on a number of factors, including the number of people who are eligible and the special needs of any of those family members. The income of the family is considered in calculating the amount of cash aid the family receives.

Medi-Cal is a part of Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant women, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal offers medical, dental, vision and mental health care to eligible individuals and families at little or no cost. If you are ineligible to Medi-Cal, affordable insurance plans are available through the health benefits exchange, Covered California, during their November through December open enrollment.

The Veterans Service Office is part of the Human Services Division (one of six Divisions) of the County of Placer Health & Human Services Department.

The office promotes the interest and welfare of veterans, their dependents, and their survivors by enhancing their quality of life through counseling, education, benefits assistance, and advocacy.

The office connects Veterans to their benefits by assisting in their interactions with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and hopes to make easier the process of applying for benefits like Veterans Health Care and Veterans Pension. Any Veteran, or any Veteran's family member, is encouraged to visit the office if they're interested in applying for their benefits.

CalFresh is a food supplement program, formerly known as Food Stamps or SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), that helps qualified individuals obtain nutritious food.

ELIGIBILITY 
Many CalFresh customers work and are considered low income. Others may be unable to work due to lack of work or inability to work; individuals receiving Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI and SSD), and Social Security are eligible for CalFresh. Individuals receiving or authorized to receive SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Payment) are eligible for CalFresh, provided all other eligibility criteria are met.

Project ReStart is a cooperative community effort to reduce and prevent homelessness, provide professional mental health services, and to assist families and individuals become self-sufficient. ReStart’s Mental Health Support Center offers clinical and non-clinical services for eligible individuals and families who are homeless or at risk of homelessness and have a mental illness. Permanent Supportive Housing is provided as a component to ReStart’s Mental Health Support Center Program. ReStart also provides crisis intervention and stabilization services for Washoe County residents who are in a family, people with a long-term disability, seniors over 60 and individuals with HIV/AIDS and others who are at risk of becoming homeless.
