The In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS) program helps pay for services so that individuals can remain safely in their own homes, in contrast to care facilities.

To be eligible, you must be over 65 years of age, disabled, or blind. Disabled children are also potentially eligible for IHSS. IHSS is considered an alternative to out-of-home care, such as nursing homes or board and care facilities.

Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) provides free legal assistance to low-income people who meet eligibility requirements. Services range from referrals to representation, depending upon the client's needs, LSNC priorities, and resources available.

LSNC serves Nevada and Placer counties. Not all services are available in both counties.

LSNC provides counsel, advice, and representation to low-income individuals and seniors involving:

  • Welfare
  • Housing
  • Social security
  • Medi-Cal/Medicare
  • Civil rights/discrimination
  • Disability rights
  • Consumer rights
  • Debt and credit issues
  • Elder abuse
  • Natural disaster outcomes
  • Tenants (not landlords)

LSNC does NOT take divorce/family law cases, criminal, conservatorship, or small claims cases.

LSNC does NOT make advance medical directives.  

Regarding will preparation assistance, they can offer legal advice & forms but do not fill them out for clients.

Placer Independent Resource Services (PIRS) facilitates peer-led Cross Disability Support Groups for people with any disability in Auburn (weekly), Placerville (monthly), and a Spanish-speaking group (biweekly).

Groups provide connection, peer support, and resources.

Services include:

  • Weekly (Tuesday afternoon 2pm-4pm) peer support group in Auburn
  • Spanish-speaking peer support group.  Fridays 12pm-1pm.  
  • Information, referrals, and reasonable accommodations upon advance request

Alpa Oaks provides 24-hour residential detox and recovery services for adult women with substance use disorders. 

The program supports residents in planning their own recovery from alcohol and drug addiction.

Services include:

  • Medically monitored detox services for up to five women
  • Residential treatment with 24-hour supervision
  • Individual and group counseling
  • Aftercare planning and support
  • Perinatal treatment services

Open to women ages 18 and older. No one is denied services based on race, religion, ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, or ability to pay.

Community Assistance Recovery and Empowerment (CARE Court) Court Program is a civil (non‑criminal) court program that provides eligible adults with serious mental illness to county behavioral health treatment and support service up to 24 months. The program is intended to prevent mental health deterioration and support recovery in the community. CARE Court is s under court oversight. Participants receive a clinically indicated, individualized treatment plan and supportive services for not a criminal court, does not include all mental health conditions, and is not a housing‑only or homelessness solution.

  • Court-overseen, individualized mental health treatment plans
  • Linkages to county behavioral health services
  • Supportive services coordinated by dedicated care team
  • Ongoing court review and monitoring for up to 24 months
