Assistance League Thrift Shop is managed and staffed completely by member volunteers and is stocked with gently-used clothing and merchandise. All funds raised at the Thrift Shop are returned to the local area through chapter programs.

Services and Volunteer Opportunities include:

• Angels for Aging - Volunteers from Assistance League provide visits, gifts, and cards to residents of Assisted Living Facilities (ALFs) in our communities. ALF's who currently have an agreement for this program are below:
  • Raw Creek Care Center
• Kids on the Block - An educational puppet program performed in schools to enlighten children (in grades 1, 2, and 3) about bullying, school safety, and learning differences.
  • Every single elementary school in Greater Placer area are sent the materials to sign up for this program

Offers a donation network where individuals, families and businesses are invited to donate gently used and new children's clothing at any time throughout the year. Then, one day per quarter, God's Closet will open for parents and guardians of children to come 'shop' free of charge, with the exception of a small admission fee, usually $1.00, from the selection of donated supplies.

Accepts and resells gently used items for children. Can also bring items in and trade for store credit. Because children grow out of sizes so quickly, this program gives anyone with children the opportunity to turn their clothes over for credit or cash and trade or pay for items that they need.

Provides diapers to young, low-income families who struggle to provide diapers for their babies.  Distributes diapers throughout Nevada County at various locations.

Conducts frequent diaper drives and fundraisers to help keep the supply of diapers sufficient to meet the output of several hundred diapers per week.

This is a Ready to Grow (R2G) resource. Ready to Grow is a First 5 Nevada County program to connect children 0-5 with services and information that support their well-being. Organizations with programs that have this R2G tag may have additional programs of interest to families.

Accepts gently used items for resale with 100 percent of the profits going to help fund Sammie's Friends.

Sammie's Friends provides medical care and adoption assistance to animals brought to the Nevada County Animal Shelter and other disadvantaged animals in the community.

Offers a thrift store and book nook whose proceeds benefit AnimalSave.

 

Serves those who care for foster children and children in crisis by providing free access to a community supported clothing closet featuring clothing, school gear, and basic necessities.
Collects new and gently used clothing to be packaged with new socks, under garments, and a book which is then distributed to children in foster care or in crisis who have been referred by foster agencies, churches, outreach programs, school principals, teachers, and counselors.

This is one of many possible First 5 Nevada County Ready to Grow (R2G) program resources. Ready to Grow resources are those that support the well-being of children ages 0-5.

Sells gently used goods. Accepts donations of items that are clean and in resalable condition. Every dollar spent at the Gift & Thrift stores goes to benefit the patients and families who are facing end-of-life.

Offers volunteers an opportunity to help sort and sell donation items at store locations in Grass Valley and Penn Valley.
