California Braille and Talking Book Library offers free services to anyone who can't read standard print materials because of a physical disability including those who can't hold a book.

As a member of the Nevada County Aging and Disability Resource Connection (ADRC), FREED assists people in making informed decisions about their short- or long–term care needs, and helps them make a plan to be able to live as they want in the community.

The ADRC helps individuals form a realistic view of what the community options in Nevada County really are. The consumer is encouraged to sit down with the ADRC Navigator to make an action plan and then become responsible for carrying out the steps of the plan.

A sample plan might include contacting family members for their input, contacting a financial advisor or planner to help with the money issues, or gathering information from local agencies on energy assistance or low cost telephone programs. It is up to the person to follow through on the plan but assistance from the ADRC Navigator is readily available if needed. A follow-up call will be made to see if the plan has been successful or if an amended plan is needed.

Staff fluent in American Sign Language (ASL) assist with finding resources to improve job opportunities.

Assisted Living Options Information provides general information and answer questions about assisted living options in Nevada County. There are no established resources for people with low or fixed incomes or who have Medicare or Medi-Cal as their only payment option.

Placer County Library operates the Foresthill Library, offering a range of services to the Foresthill community.

During disasters, such as wildfires or winter storms, the 211 Connecting Point shares timely updates through its call center and website.

• Online guided search tool to explore community resources by topic
• Disaster-related updates during emergencies (evacuation info, shelter details, etc.)
