Legal Services of Northern California (LSNC) provides free legal assistance to low-income people who meet eligibility requirements. Services range from referrals to representation, depending upon the client's needs, LSNC priorities, and resources available.

LSNC serves Nevada and Placer counties. Not all services are available in both counties.

LSNC provides counsel, advice, and representation to low-income individuals and seniors involving:

• Medi-Cal/Medicare
• Civil rights/discrimination
• Disability rights
• Consumer rights
• Debt and credit issues
• Elder abuse
• Natural disaster outcomes

LSNC does NOT take divorce/family law cases, criminal, conservatorship, or small claims cases.

Phone and fax numbers are the same for both offices and are routed through Auburn. Since the Auburn office is closed on Fridays, there is no way to reach the Nevada City office by phone on Fridays even though that office location is open.

Auburn Interfaith Food Closet offers a Home Delivery Program that provides participants with enough food each month to make 12 meals for everyone in the household.

The home delivery service is not on-demand, but occurs monthly on a pre-established schedule. Each guest's order is customized monthly, to best serve their needs.

To register for this program, people can call AIFC at 530-885-1921 during opening hours.

Medi-Cal

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid health care program. This is a public health insurance program that pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited income and resources.

Medicare is a federal health insurance program for people 65 or older, and some younger people with disabilities. To apply for Medicare, you need to go through the federal government - you can apply online at Medicare.gov. California HOPE (CalHOPE) delivers crisis phone support and a warm line for communities impacted by a national disaster. This is a Crisis Counseling Assistance and Training Program (CCP) funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), and run by the California Department of Health Care Services (DHCS).

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid program. This is a public health insurance program which provides needed health care services for low-income individuals including families with children, seniors, persons with disabilities, foster care, pregnant people, and low income people with specific diseases such as tuberculosis, breast cancer, or HIV/AIDS.

Medi-Cal is free or low-cost for California residents who meet eligibility requirements. Medi-Cal considers income, but there is no asset limit (bank accounts, cash, property, vehicles).

Most applicants who apply through Covered California and enroll in Medi-Cal will receive care through managed health care plans. Interfaith Food Ministry, in a partnership with SpeeDee Carts, offers food home delivery to eligible people. Qualifying clients include seniors, people with disabilities, people who have tested positive for COVID-19 and are in isolation, and individuals who only sometimes have access to transportation.

Services
The Behavioral Health Department provides a wide variety of Adult Mental Health Services to the public, particularly for Medi-Cal recipients and those with severe mental illness. These include Mental Health Services and Alcohol and Other Drug Services. County employees provide some services, while contracted individuals and organizations provide other services, with County monitoring.

Service Range
This continuum of care ranges from acute inpatient to routine outpatient services, and includes medication services, psychotherapy, residential services, wellness and recovery, care management, long term institutional care and vocational services. Adult Services monitors the delivery of services to ensure that State standards are met for quality, timeliness and authorization.
