The Placer County Probation Department promotes the safety of the citizens of Placer County by conducting investigations for the court, enforcing court orders, ensuring victim’s rights, engaging in crime prevention partnerships, and facilitating the re-socialization of offenders through the use of evidence-based supervision and best practices.

Probation Outreach Vehicle
The Department has a Probation Outreach Vehicle (POV) to provide services to people who have barriers to accessing them, such as people with transportation issues and people who are unhoused. The POV serves as a probation office, courtroom, and assessment center.

Placer Independent Resource Services (PIRS) provides free services for people with disabilities.  They serves Placer, El Dorado, and Alpine counties.

Alta Colfax operates a deviated fixed-route transit service connecting parts of Placer County between Auburn and Alta.

The route:

• Includes weekday public transportation between Auburn Amtrak Station, Colfax Amtrak Station, and Alta Store
• Operates along I-80 with deviations up to ¾ mile from the route
• Runs twice daily, Monday through Friday

Public transit for Rocklin residents is provided by the Placer County Transit (PCT) which offers bus service to and from Sacramento.

• Dial-A-Ride Service is available by calling 916-745-7560 twenty-four hours in advance of your desired trip time. All Dial-A-Ride vehicles are wheel-chair accessible.
• Health Express is a no-to-low-cost transportation service providing rides for Placer County residents to and from medically-related appointments. To obtain an application or more information call 530-889-9500.

CalWORKs & Employment Services acts as a part of Human Services, one of six Divisions of County of Placer Health & Human Services.

If you are an adult with dependent children, you may be eligible for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, or CalWORKs. CalWORKs provides:

• Child care, work expense assistance, transportation, and counseling
• Education, employment and training programs through Employment Services
• Families with children financial assistance to meet their basic needs
• Support for families moving toward self-sufficiency

If you are eligible for CalWORKs you will automatically qualify for Medi-Cal and may also qualify for CalFresh. Unless you are exempt, you will be referred to the Employment Services program for assistance gaining employment. The City of Auburn operates its own transit programs and also partners with Placer County Transit to expand public transportation options. 

Riders can use the TransLoc app to schedule trips for both local routes and on-demand service.

Services include:

• The Auburn Loop, a deviated fixed-route service with up to ½-mile off-route pickups and drop-offs within Auburn and nearby areas

City of Lincoln Transit p​rovides local and commuter transit services for residents of Lincoln through a partnership with Placer County Transit.

The Salt Mine offers emergency services to the city of Lincoln and Sheridan residents only. Their main charitable activity is the food closet, presently offering emergency food to over one thousand needy families in the area each month.

In addition, they help with emergency clothing, household items, and transportation. Other emergency needs are met on an ’as available basis’ or by referral such as bathing and laundry facilities to name a few.

All items sold in these thrift shops are donated by local supporters.

The Salt Mine offers emergency and hot lunches Tue-Fri, 9am-12pm and Sat 12pm-1pm
