The Placer County Probation Department promotes the safety of the citizens of Placer County by conducting investigations for the court, enforcing court orders, ensuring victim’s rights, engaging in crime prevention partnerships, and facilitating the re-socialization of offenders through the use of evidence-based supervision and best practices.

Probation Outreach Vehicle
The Department has a Probation Outreach Vehicle (POV) to provide services to people who have barriers to accessing them, such as people with transportation issues and people who are unhoused. The POV serves as a probation office, courtroom, and assessment center.

Placer Independent Resource Services (PIRS) offers free services that support independent living for people with disabilities in Placer, El Dorado, and Alpine counties.

Services include:

  • Coordination of assistive technology, including computer access aids
  • Peer support and independent living skills training
  • Personal assistant referrals
  • Application assistance for SSI, SSDI, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, IHSS, and housing-related forms
  • Housing and transportation information and advocacy

Alta Colfax operates a deviated fixed-route transit service connecting parts of Placer County between Auburn and Alta.

The route:

  • Includes weekday public transportation between Auburn Amtrak Station, Colfax Amtrak Station, and Alta Store
  • Operates along I-80 with deviations up to ¾ mile from the route
  • Runs twice daily, Monday through Friday

If you are an adult with dependent children, you may be eligible for California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids, or CalWORKs. CalWORKs provides:

  • Education, employment and training programs through Employment Services
  • Families with children financial assistance to meet their basic needs

FieldHaven Feline Center’s FieldHaven Animal Support Team (FHAST) responds to disaster incidents by providing emergency shelter and care for cats and other small animals displaced by wildfires, evacuations, or other crises.

FHAST deploys trained volunteers and veterinary staff to offer on-site animal care, transport support, and compassionate assistance to pet owners.

The program prioritizes pet safety and trauma-informed sheltering in collaboration with local emergency response systems.

Services include:

  • Emergency animal sheltering for cats and pocket pets during disasters
  • On-site and off-site veterinary care for animals requiring medical support
  • Transportation assistance for evacuated or rescued animals

The Salt Mine offers emergency services to the city of Lincoln and Sheridan residents only. Their main charitable activity is the food closet, presently offering emergency food to over one thousand needy families in the area each month.

In addition, they help with emergency clothing, household items, and transportation. Other emergency needs are met on an ’as available basis’ or by referral such as bathing and laundry facilities to name a few.

All items sold in these thrift shops are donated by local supporters.

The Salt Mine offers emergency and hot lunches Tue-Fri, 9am-12pm and Sat 12pm-1pm
