➢ Sierra Roots | Holiday Meal Service

  • What? Sierra Roots provides a weekly hot lunch every Thursday at the Community Church in Nevada City for people experiencing homelessness. The service on Thursday, November 27 (Thanksgiving) and Thursday, December 25 (Christmas) will include a full holiday meal served at the regular time.
  • When? Thursdays at 11:30am (doors open at 10:30am)
    • Holiday meals served on:
      • Thanksgiving Day | Thursday, November 27, 2025
      • Christmas Day | Thursday, December 25, 2025
  • Where? Community Church, 300 Main Street, Nevada City, CA 95959

Eligibility:

  • Open to people experiencing homelessness
  • Walk-in only; sign-in with name requested
  • No ID required; respectful behavior expected
  • Leashed dogs allowed
  • Children are not allowed at this service


➢ Nevada County Toy Run | Toy & Food Giveaway

  • ​What? The Nevada County Toy Run is a community event featuring a motorcycle ride followed by a toy and food giveaway for local families in need.
  • When? Saturday, December 13, 2025
    • Motorcycle Ride: Departs at 12pm from the Eric Rood Center (950 Maidu Ave, Nevada City)
    • Toy & Food Giveaway: 1:30pm-6pm at the Nevada County Fairgrounds (Gate 1), 11228 McCourtney Rd, Grass Valley

Eligibility:

  • Open to local families in need of holiday toys and food
  • Registration is required

➢ The Salvation Army | Angel Tree Holiday Toy & Food Box Program – Grass Valley

  • What? The Salvation Army in Grass Valley offers holiday gifts for children and a food box for families through its Angel Tree Program.
  • When? Applications are available from October 1 to November 30, 2025.
  • Where? The Salvation Army, 10725 Alta Street, Grass Valley, CA 95945

Eligibility:

  • Open to families in need residing in Nevada County
  • Children must be between 0-16 years old
  • Parent or legal guardian must apply
  • Proof of income, address, and ID required
  • Birth certificates required for each child
  • Proof of guardianship required if applicable
