Nevada County Mutual Aid Community Dinner - Free Holiday Meal
What: Free holiday meal (with vegetarian option), live music and winter clothes distribution.

New Covenant Baptist Church Breakfast with Santa
What: The church is having a ‘Breakfast with Santa’ event. Children of all ages are invited to have a pancake breakfast with Santa. There will also be Christmas crafts and gift bag making; including a picture with Santa! This event is free of charge. Anyone is welcome to attend. No eligibility requirements. Nevada and Placer County resident’s welcome.

The Salvation Army - Angel Tree program
What: The Salvation Army Angel Tree program helps provide Christmas toys and other gifts for hundreds of thousands of children around the country each year. Once a child has been registered and accepted as an Angel their Christmas wish list is shared with donors in your community who purchase gifts of new clothing and toys. The gifts are distributed to the family to place under their family Christmas tree. If a family is in need of toys, they need to apply online at: www.saangeltree.org. If family does not have internet access, The Salvation Army will take applications in person on Mon-Thu from 9 AM - 3 PM at the Grass Valley office (10725 Alta Street). Applicants must have an appointment. Call 530-274-3500 x202, to schedule with Gail.  
Upload (or bring if applying in person) the following documents:
When: Registration opens on November 1, 2023 and closes on December 8 2023. Space is limited. 
  • Identification (Government Photo ID, Birth Certificate, or Passport to services) for the applicant.
  • Proof of Nevada County Residence (such as a copy of a utility bill, bank statement, or rental agreement with applicant's name and address).
  • Birth Certificate for each child, showing applicant as parent (or other proof of guardianship)

Grass Valley United Methodist Church - Last Friday Supper
What: In addition to GVUMC's regular monthly meals, they are offering a special Christmas Last Friday Supper!  All are welcome to join for a free indoor sit-down dinner!  Unfortunately, To-Go Dinners will not be available.

Interfaith Food Ministry (IFM) 
What: in addition to IFM’s regular distributions, they are offering a special Christmas holiday distribution which includes a full meal with turkey/ham, sides, vegetable soup. etc.

Waste Management of Nevada County - Christmas Tree Disposal
More details will be available on their Facebook site approximately 1 week before Christmas.  

Holiday trees can be disposed of in two easy ways:
  1. Cut and place in Green Waste Cart: Holiday trees can be cut into small sections and placed in your green waste cart. Please make sure the lid on the cart can close. 
  2. Take Trees to Designated WM Recycling sites: Waste management will be providing Free Holiday/Christmas Tree Recycling for Nevada County residents. You can take whole trees (free of all tinsel, snow flocking, decorations, and metal stands) to specified locations.

All Nevada County, Grass Valley and Nevada City residents can bring Christmas Trees to the following locations on the dates indicated for free disposal.
