Sierra Senior Services offers community dining at the North Tahoe Event Center at 8318 N Lake Blvd, Kings Beach, CA 96143Open to the public Tuesday from 11:45am-1pm. Please make reservations by 4 PM the day before at 530-550-7600. Visitors under the age of 60 may enjoy lunch for a contribution of $10 per meal. Voluntary contribution for seniors is $6 per meal but no senior will be turned away due to inability to contribute.

The Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is a federally funded program administered nationally by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Services Agency, and in California, by the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA). The goal of the California SFMNP is to provide fresh, nutritious, unprepared, locally-grown produce, cut herbs, and raw honey through Certified Farmers’ Markets to low-income seniors.

The Seniors Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) is designed to:
  • Provide low-income seniors with access to locally grown fruits, vegetables, honey, and herbs.
  • Increase the domestic consumption of agricultural commodities through farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community supported agricultural programs.
  • Aid in the development of new and additional farmers' markets, roadside stands, and community support agricultural programs.

Well Connected (formerly Senior Center Without Walls) and Well Connected Español are phone and online programs offering activities, education, friendly conversation, and an assortment of classes and support groups to older adults accessible from the comfort of home. The programs consist of participants, staff, facilitators, presenters, and other volunteers who care about each other, and who value being connected to engaging content, and to each other. All activities are free to participants and are available in English and Spanish.

Well Connected members can play a game, learn a language, write a poem, go on a virtual tour, meditate, share a gratitude, get support, and most importantly, connect and engage with others every day across the country. Well Connected is a Community Service of Covia and is free of charge to all participants and available to adults over the age of 60.

The PG&E REACH program helps low-income families keep their utilities services turned on in times of hardship or crisis. REACH stands for Relief for Energy Assistance through Community Help.

The REACH program is managed for PG&E by Dollar Energy.

  • The maximum grant amount an applicant may receive is $1,000.
  • Applicants can only receive a grant once every 12 months.
  • Grants can only be used to pay past due amounts.
  • Grant awards are based on need and each family’s circumstances are different. Grant amounts are determined on a case-to-case basis.
  • Applicants must have an outstanding balance on their utility bill of at least $100.
  • Senior Citizens, age 62 and over, must have an outstanding balance of at least $50.
