This resource is eligible for electronic referral. The FREED Telephone Reassurance program is for anyone feeling lonely or isolated in Nevada County. A phone bank of volunteers makes phone calls Monday - Friday to check-in, chat, and socialize. The FREED Friendly Visitor program is not conducting in-person visits due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Senior Peer Counseling is a free, confidential, voluntary, peer support, in-home program for Placer County residents aged 55 years or better, who are dealing with age-related adjustment issues.

As we age, life transitions can sometimes be painful or difficult to adjust to. Sometimes it is helpful to talk with someone near your age. A peer can help you address these transitional concerns in a safe, confidential, environment. Peer Counselors work with people in the community on issues such as:
  • Grief
  • Caregiver stress
  • Change in individuals' sense of independence
  • Family conflict
  • Loneliness
  • Situational depression or anxiety
  • Loss of a companion
  • Medical diagnosis
  • Physical disability
  • Retirement
  • Relocation
  • Change in health

Founded in 1987, Del Oro Caregiver Resource Center is part of a statewide system of resource centers serving family caregivers. Del Oro covers California’s Gold Country Counties — Alpine, Amador, Calaveras, Colusa, El Dorado, Nevada, Placer, Sacramento, San Joaquin, Sierra, Sutter, Yolo, and Yuba — and is an independent, private, non-profit program funded by the Department of Health Care Services, Agency on Aging, Area 4, grants and private contributions.

Del Oro is dedicated to serving families caring for an adult with a cognitive impairing condition that occurred after the age of 18 (e.g., Dementia, Alzheimer's disease, stroke, traumatic brain injury, Parkinson's disease, and frail older adults) in various counties.

Well Connected (formerly Senior Center Without Walls) and Well Connected Español are phone and online programs offering activities, education, friendly conversation, and an assortment of classes and support groups to older adults accessible from the comfort of home. The programs consist of participants, staff, facilitators, presenters, and other volunteers who care about each other, and who value being connected to engaging content, and to each other. All activities are free to participants and are available in English and Spanish.

Well Connected members can play a game, learn a language, write a poem, go on a virtual tour, meditate, share a gratitude, get support, and most importantly, connect and engage with others every day across the country. Well Connected is a Community Service of Covia and is free of charge to all participants and available to adults over the age of 60.
