Medi-Cal beneficiaries can call Health Care Options to select a plan, change a plan, or disenroll.

Health Care Options is a branch of the Managed Care Operations Division of the CA Dept. of Health Care Services.

Provides Medi-Cal telephone support during normal business hours and an automated phone line for additional information and help after hours.

Medi-Cal phone support: 800-541-5555. The Telephone Service Center (TSC) is available 8am to 5pm, Monday through Friday, except holidays.

People who have straight Medi-Cal can call this number to get a list of providers in their area that take Medi-Cal. Once they have Anthem Blue Cross, California Health and Wellness, or other managed care, they will need to contact those companies directly for a list of providers.

Automated Phone Center: 800-786-4346. The automated phone center is available 7am to 8pm, Pacific Standard Time, seven days a week.

Offers health insurance to qualified individuals and families. There are many categories of Medi-Cal. A family's resources and/or income, depending on the category, determine eligibility.

County Medical Services Program (CMSP) provides coverage for adults not on SSI/SSP or Medi-Cal between the ages of 21 and 64. (For more information on CMSP see www.cmspcounties.org).

The Medi-Cal Program currently offers dental services as one of the program's many benefits.

The Medi-Cal Dental Program covers a variety of dental services for Medi-Cal beneficiaries, such as:
  • Diagnostic and preventive dental hygiene (e.g. examinations, x-rays, and teeth cleanings)
  • Emergency services for pain control
  • Tooth extractions
  • Fillings
  • Root canal treatments (anterior/posterior)
  • Crowns (prefabricated/laboratory)
  • Scaling and root planing
  • Periodontal maintenance
  • Complete and partial dentures
  • Orthodontics for children who qualify
Members can access dental services through Medi-Cal Dental enrolled providers, who will advise members on the best course of treatment, and under the specific conditions for which some of these services are allowable.

California Health and Wellness serves members under the state’s Medi-Cal Managed Care Rural Expansion program. The expansion program covers members eligible for Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), as well as other populations.

NOTE: Most people in Placer County who have Medi-Cal have been assigned or have chosen one of two managed care plans: Anthem Blue Cross or California Health and Wellness.
