Gold County Senior Services operates the Congregate Lunch Café, offering hot, freshly prepared lunches in a community setting for older adults in Western Nevada County.

Services include:

  • Hot lunch at noon on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays

Additional Information:

  • Welcomes adults age 60 and older; others may attend as guests for a fee
  • Collects a suggested voluntary contribution of $3.00 per meal for eligible participants
  • Charges a $7.00 meal fee for guests under age 60

Meals are served at Nevada City Senior Apartments, 231 Colfax Ave, Grass Valley, CA 95945. Service is unavailable on holidays or during unsafe travel conditions. First-time participants must complete an intake form.

No eligible participant is denied service due to inability to contribute.

Sierra Roots provides weekly meals and clothing to people who are homeless. Clothing, including socks and shoes, is available every week. Individuals can get clothing once every two weeks.

During winter months, lunch served on Thursdays at 11:30am at the First Community Church at 300 Main Street, Nevada City.

During summer months, Thursday lunches are served at 11:30am at Pioneer Park, 421 Nimrod Street in Nevada City in the picnic area near the horseshoe pits.

Seniors First offers Meals on Wheels and Senior Cafes.

Meals on Wheels

A service designed to help Older Adults Age in Place by targeting people who are home alone during the day and who have difficulty preparing simple meals. For clients who need the service temporarily.

Eligibility

At the time services are provided, clients shall be:

  • 62 years of age or older, sufficiently functionally impaired and homebound; or,
  • The spouse, of any age, of an eligible client; or,
  • A person with a disability (of any age) who lives with an eligible client.

Senior Cafés

The Senior Cafés program provides a hot, healthy lunch five days a week to seniors age 60 at over eight Senior Café locations throughout Placer County including Auburn, Lincoln, Rocklin and Roseville. The Senior Cafés are lively gathering places that help maintain clients' sense of community and connectedness.

Cost

Meals are provided for a small optional contribution. No one is ever turned away for lack of financial resources.
